In order to fit an unprecedented eight analogue, ADC path-adjustable insert points into a standard 19" rackmount interface, we decided that DB25 connectors would be the most appropriate choice in order to accomplish this, despite the potential for deterring some prospective iD48 owners less familiar with D-shaped, 'scart-esque' analogue i/o formats.
The 'DB25' / TASCAM Analog AES59 "8-way connections" simply uses a standard 'D'-shaped, 'sub-miniature' 25-pin connector to carry eight sets of three connections for a total of 24 (one pin is unused), providing the exact same functionality as eight familiar balanced 1/4" TRS / XLR jacks, shrunken into one simple connector.
You can connect iD48 directly to a patch bay or larger mixer / console using standard DB25 cables, or you can simply use 'breakout' cables to cut out the middle-man and route these inserts directly to your rack effects, guitar pedals etc.
tl;dr?
Connect the DB25 directly to any other gear with analogue i/o and set the ADC path as required in the iD app.
Using DB25 breakout cables, you can unleash the true power of iD48 when combined with other equipment in your studio, and eliminate the need for a patchbay or additional mixing console entirely.
