Each input on iD48 has its own ADC Path setting. This controls from which source the Analogue to Digital Converter is taking its signal from, and how the Balanced Inserts are used in the signal path.
There are three ADC paths to choose from:
- Mic
- ADC Direct
- Mic Insert
Please note that it is possible to adjust this on a per-channel basis so it's entirely possible to have one channel in 'Mic' Mode, another in 'ADC Direct' mode and another in 'Mic Insert Mode' all simultaneously.
An explanation of the routing for each ADC path can be found below:
Mic

In Mic mode, the ADC is fed directly from the Combi XLR/TRS Jack. The ADC Inputs/Insert Returns DB25 Connector is not used.
The Line Outputs/Insert Sends DB25 Conenctor will be used as additional line output channels, being fed from the DACs (digital to analogue converters). You can choose what audio is being sent to the Line Outputs using the Routing Matrix of the iD mixer app.
ADC Direct

In ADC Direct mode, the ADC is fed from the ADC Input/Insert Returns DB25 Connector.
The Channel being adjusted is the channel number taken from the DB25 Conenctor; for example, if you are adjusting the ADC path of Input 1, channel 1 on the ADC Inputs DB25 Connector will be used. It is not possible to switch which channel of the DB25 is being used. We would recommend an external patch bay if you require this flexibility
The Combi XLR/TRS Jack is unused in this mode.
The Line Outputs/Insert Sends DB25 Conenctor will be used as additional line output channels, being fed from the DACs, in the exact same manner as the 'Mic' mode.
Mic Insert

In Mic Insert Mode, the Combi XLR/TRS Jack Sends the Signal to the Line Outputs/Insert Sends DB25 Connector and the ADC is fed from the ADC Inputs / Insert Returns DB25 Connector.
This allows you to add hardware effects and outboard equipment between the Insert Send and Return points. This could be a Hardware Compressor, EQ, Reverb or any other effect. These effects will then be captured when recording.
In this mode, it is not possible to send audio from the DAC to the Line Outputs DB25 Connector as this is being used as the Insert Send.
