The iD24 features one optical input and one optical output. These can be configured for either ADAT or optical S/PDIF using the iD Mixer application.
When using ADAT, the iD24 supports:
- 8 channels of digital input and output at 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz
- 4 channels of digital input and output at 88.2 kHz or 96 kHz using SMUX
When using optical S/PDIF, the iD24 supports 2 channels of digital input and output at sample rates up to 96 kHz.
Connecting an ADAT device
To add additional inputs to your iD24, connect the optical output of your external ADAT device to the optical input of the iD24 using a TOSLINK optical cable.
For example, this can be used to connect an external 8-channel microphone preamp such as the Audient ASP800.
To send audio from the iD24 to an external ADAT device, connect the optical output of the iD24 to the optical input of the external device.
In the iD Mixer application, ensure the relevant optical input or output is set to ADAT.
Digital clocking
When connecting digital devices, all devices must be synchronised to the same digital clock.
One device must act as the master clock, with all other devices following it.
The iD24 can operate as either the master or slave depending on your setup.
If the iD24 is being used as the master, clock can be sent to the external device via the optical output or the iD24's BNC word clock output.
If the iD24 is being used as the slave, it receives the external clock through its optical input.
The BNC connection on the iD24 is a word clock output only.
For more information on configuring digital clocking, see iD24 - Digital Setup.
